The Bucket List

Starring:    Jack Nicholson as Edward, the wealth executive

Morgan Freeman as Carter - the happy family man

The Bucket List is about 2 men Edward, a business man and Carter, a lifelong mechanic, from different social and economical status who embark on the adventure of a lifetime.

This adventure is believed to bring them completeness in their quest to fulfill their destiny before their final days. A collective of events and adventures that they'd always wanted to do, but seems to have had no time to ever commence.

Edward and Carter are almost simultaneously diagnosed with terminal cancer, both having about a year to live decide to entertain an idea from Carter's old philosophy professor of making a list of "thng to do before we kick the bucket".

Edward is a very solvent executive with all that life has to offer but a real family and true happiness.

Carter, a not-so prominent mechanic by forcible trade since his early years, with a fairly thriving business, a loving wife, successful kids and a well-lived life. The journey takes the two skydiving, automobile racing to a trip to Africa's wildlife.

While this is a beautiful end to life's dreadful events, I ask if this was the best way to spend your last few days. Morgan Freeman cheats his wife out of his last few days and offers his best moments to a selfish, self-serving, incorrigible Jack Nicholson when those days could have been spent with his family.

As we end up seeing the truth in Jack Nicholson's heart, he is a calculating and thoughful person afterall, he indirectly shows Morgan what he's missing by deciding to come along the journey of life, when he sends him a beautiful guest at a bar, showing Morgan the errors in his ways. Morgan returns the favor for his dear friend with a gift that with all of Edward's wealth seems to be out of reach. To make a long story short, I am perplexed and bothered that Morgan Freeman had to be manipulated into seeing the truth and come to the realization where his priorities should have been from inception.

Question:

Is this a selfish act on Morgan Freeman's part or is he allowed a moment of selfishness from all of his selfless act for his family?

Before answering this question, do consider what he's sacrificed for his family and moreso what his wife has sacrificed also.
